MANILA – The BRP Ang Pangulo (ACS-25), the presidential yacht that was turned into a floating hospital following Typhoon Odette’s devastation last month, has provided medical assistance to 820 residents of two barangays in the Dinagat Islands during its operation in the area from January 14 to 15.
“After serving Siargao for the past week, the floating hospital returns to Dinagat Islands to continue delivering medical services and humanitarian assistance to the people of the province. This time, the Presidential Ship anchored off the coasts of Barangays Cab-ilan and Gomez in the Municipality of Dinagat. A total of 368 and 452 patients, respectively, were served the past two days,” the BRP Ang Pangulo said in its Facebook post on Sunday night.
Based on the same post, the 820 patients served in both barangays are the highest since BRP Ang Pangulo began its humanitarian mission last December.
“To date, a total of 1,614 residents from Siargao and Dinagat Islands have been attended to by the hospital ship,” the ship said.
The BRP Ang Pangulo is part of the Navy’s 27-ship flotilla sent to assist communities hit by “Odette”.
The ship departed Manila on December 19, transporting thousands of humanitarian items and other necessities for Mindanao’s afflicted populace.
The Philippine Navy spokesperson, Commander Benjo Negranza, previously stated that they utilize their resources to aid disaster-stricken areas in ensuring the prompt delivery of relief goods to typhoon victims.
Meanwhile, the Navy’s landing dock BRP Tarlac LD601 departed Pier 15, South Harbor in Manila for its fourth relief transport mission for the areas affected by Typhoon Odette in Visayas and Mindanao on Sunday.
The BRP Tarlac is carrying around 450 tons of relief goods and essential items gathered from various government agencies, PN units, and stakeholders for distribution to individuals affected by ‘Odette’ in Cebu, Bohol, Surigao provinces, and Leyte.
The ship transported the heaviest haul of relief goods and essential rolling cargoes to the calamity-stricken districts of Visayas and Mindanao during its third relief sortie.
When the BRP Tarlac arrived in Cebu on January 8, it was loaded with 542,206 kilograms of relief goods and 50 tons of rolling cargo.
