Sara Duterte: Over P216M spent in 2022 polls

MANILA — In her campaign expense declaration, Vice President-elect Sara Duterte stated that she spent more than P216 million in her bid to become the country’s second-highest elected official, the majority of which was funded by her party.

Duterte declared in her Statement of Contributions and Expenditures filed Wednesday before the Commission on Elections that she did not receive monetary donations but instead received in-kind contributions from her political party and “other sources.”

She received and spent a total of P216,190,935.06 for her campaign, of which P136,609.244.91 came from the Lakas-CMD party, while P79,581,690.15 came from “other sources” who are not easily traceable.

In the document, Duterte mentioned that she spent all of the contributions on her campaign, leaving her with no excess donations unlike her running mate, President-elect Ferdinand Marcos Jr.

Similar to Marcos, Duterte stated that she did not use personal funds for her vice presidential campaign.

Vice-presidential candidates are only allowed to spend P10 per registered voter, which amounts to around P674 million.

Apart from Duterte, losing vice-presidential candidates Willie Ong and Emmanuel Lopez have also filed their campaign contribution declarations.
