MANILA – Despite being welcomed as a special guest to the “Salamat PRRD” thanksgiving concert at the Quirino Grandstand in Manila on Sunday night, outgoing President Rodrigo Roa Duterte did not pass up the opportunity to serenade his fans and supporters.
Even though Martin Nievera, an international singer and Concert King, had previously performed “Ikaw” earlier in the event, Duterte was asked to sing the song himself with Nievera singing some of it.
As the President was singing his favorite song, a fireworks display was also set off.
Moreover, there was a drone show with the words “Salamat (Thank You)” and “PRRD”, as well as the president’s face, his fist symbol, and the Philippine flag.
Duterte then gave a brief speech in which he thanked all attendees for coming despite the rain.
“Maigsi lang po. Sa sambayanang Pilipino, maraming, maraming salamat sa inyo (This will be short. To all Filipinos, thank you very much),” he said and returned back to his seat to enjoy the rest of the program.
The #SalamatPRRD concert was led by an ensemble of performers led by Nieverra, Andrew E. Chad Borja, Dulce, Freddie Aguilar, Ice Seguerra, Isay Alvarez, Jed Madela, Jimmy Bondoc, Moymoy Palaboy, Robert Seña, and the Philippine Philharmonic Orchestra.
Officials, celebrities, and supporters also posed for photos with Duterte throughout the program.
Approximately 3,500 people gathered to the Quirno Grandstand, which previously staged Duterte’s 2016 miting de avance.
Duterte will step down from office by noon of June 30. He will be succeeded by President-elect Ferdinand Marcos Jr.
