MANILA – The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) has retained the Alert Level 1 status for Filipinos in Israel.
The DFA website revealed that Alert Level 1 or Precautionary Phase is issued due to valid signs of “internal disturbance, instability or external threat to the host country”.
DFA maintained the lowest alert level as it acknowledged the halt of hostilities in the Gaza Strip, which reportedly preceded an Israel attack on the area.
“[We hope] that the ceasefire holds. We call on parties to exercise restraint and to respect the terms of the ceasefire,” DFA said in a statement.
According to the DFA, no Filipinos have been reported harmed in the conflict as of the statement. DFA spokesperson Ma. Teresita Daza stated that there are 160 Filipinos in Gaza.
“The DFA, through its Embassies in Tel Aviv and Amman, is monitoring the situation. The safety and security of every Filipino overseas remain the priority of the Philippine government,” it said.
The DFA urged the Filipino communities in the Gaza Strip and the surrounding areas to stay as much as possible inside their residences, avoid public areas, and to keep on monitoring the security situation through the Embassies’ official communication channels despite the ceasefire between the two warring parties.
