EU to provide P8.6 million aid to assist Karding-affected Luzon

MANILA – The European Union (EU) has allocated 150,000 euros (about PHP8.6 million) in humanitarian aid to assist the hardest-hit regions in Luzon recover from the onslaught of Super Typhoon Karding.

According to the EU Delegation in Manila, the assistance will benefit more than 35,000 individuals in some of the severely impacted areas of Central Luzon and Calabarzon.

The EU funding would support the Philippine Red Cross in delivering assistance to the victims through the distribution of relief items, such as shelter materials, food, water containers, and hygiene kits.

Multi-purpose cash grants would also be given to enable people meet their basic needs.

Moreover, the funding would be used for providing medical assistance to disaster victims and repairing schools.

The funding is part of the EU’s overall donation to the Disaster Relief Emergency Fund of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies.

Karding, which intensified into a super typhoon, made landfall on September 25 in Burdeos, Quezon, leaving a trail of destruction throughout six provinces.

According to the most recent data from the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council, over 1.4 million people were affected by the typhoon, which also killed 12, injured 68, and left five people missing.
