PAGASA: New LPA threatens Luzon, Eastern Visayas

MANILA — The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) is currently monitoring a new low-pressure area (LPA) that is anticipated to enter the Philippine area of responsibility by Tuesday or Wednesday.

According to state weather experts, the weather disturbance has a high chance of developing into a typhoon and may make landfall somewhere in Luzon or Eastern Visayas by Thursday.

PAGASA reported that the LPA, which will be named “Paeng” if it gets stronger while approaching the country, was last spotted in the Pacific Ocean approximately 1,400 kilometers east of Mindanao.

Meanwhile, with Typhoon Obet now outside the Philippine area, the northeast monsoon or amihan is bringing slightly colder temperatures with scattered light rains in a big part of Northern Luzon especially at dawn.

An Intertropical Convergence Zone or the meeting of winds from the Southern and Northern hemispheres is also bringing some cloudy skies and rains to parts of Mindanao.

PAGASA stated in its three-day weather outlook issued yesterday that Metro Manila, with temperatures ranging from 24 to 32 degrees Celsius, will have fair weather which means sunny weather up to noon with high chances of rain in the afternoon to evening.

Baguio City, colder at 16 to 24 degrees, especially now that the amihan season has begun, will also be fair with light scattered rains in the next three days.

PAGASA reported that the Bicol region will have fair weather on Monday, but is forecast to have higher chances of rain by Tuesday and Wednesday because of the approaching LPA.

Visayas is also anticipated to have fair weather today and on Tuesday, but cloudy with more rains by Wednesday also because of the approaching weather disturbance.

According to PAGASA, Mindanao will also have fair weather in the next three days, but with chance of rains because of localized thunderstorms.
