NDRRMC: Confirmed death toll due to Paeng now at 121

MANILA – The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) on Monday stated that the total death toll from the onslaught of Severe Tropical Storm Paeng has reached 156.

Based on its latest situation report, the NDRRMC said 121 of these deaths have been confirmed as due to the tropical cyclone.

The confirmed fatalities include 63 from the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM); 32 from Western Visayas; 20 from Calabarzon; three from Soccsksargen; two from Central Luzon and one from the Cordillera Administrative Region.

Out of the 35 deaths undergoing confirmation, 14 are from Calabarzon; five from Eastern Visayas; four from Zamboanga Peninsula; three each from Mimaropa and Cagayan Valley; two each from Bicol and Central Visayas and one each from Western Visayas and Soccsksargen.

Meanwhile, 141 persons were reported injured — 94 of whom were validated while 28 out of a total of 37 missing persons have been confirmed.

According to the NDRRMC, Paeng has affected 1,269,166 families or 4,623,408 persons residing in 9,481 barangays nationwide.

Damaged houses were placed at 34,698, of which 31,558 are classified as “partially damaged” and 3,140 as “totally damaged”.

So far, the tropical cyclone has inflicted PHP4.3 billion in infrastructure damage and PHP3.09 billion in agricultural loss.
