DepEd: 20M students now enrolled for SY 2023-2024

MANILA – More than 20 million learners are currently enrolled for the incoming school year, the latest data from the Department of Education (DepEd) showed.

Citing enrollment data as of Thursday, Aug. 24, DepEd said the total number of enrolled students for the School Year (SY) 2023-2024 has reached 20,093,611.

DepEd said this enrollment data was based on the Learner Information System (LIS) Quick Count for the incoming school year.

Based on the data, the highest number of enrollees is from Calabarzon (Region IV-A) with 3,265,523 followed by the National Capital Region (NCR) with 2,402,858 and Central Luzon (Region III) with 2,177,726.

Late enrollees

In a Viber message to reporters, DepEd Assistant Secretary and Deputy Spokesperson Francis Cesar Bringas said that late enrollees will still be accepted in public schools.

“We accommodate late enrollees although we don’t encourage them to be late so class programming, especially in big schools, would be more efficient,” Bringas said in a mix of English and Filipino. (MB)
