SSS to dispose of unclaimed UMIDs by December

MANILA – The Social Security System (SSS) will dispose of unclaimed Unified Multi-Purpose Identification (UMID) cards from its branches by the end of this year.

In a statement on Tuesday, Nov. 21, the pension fund said UMID card applicants between August 2017 to December 2020 must claim their IDs on or before Dec. 29, 2023.

According to the SSS retention policy, unretrieved cards from branches and those that the Philippine Postal Corp. (PHLPost) returned to SSS will be scrapped after the said due date.

Moreover, PHLPost may only attempt their card delivery twice before sending it back to the branches.

“Since February 2023, we have stopped accepting applications for regular UMID cards but are currently offering UMID ATM Pay Card exclusively to SSS members who either have existing UMID cards or pending UMID card applications,” SSS explained.

Just recently, the security system announced its joint effort with the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) to process the Philippine Identification System (PhilSys) services.

This includes the issuance of a similar ATM-based SSS card for initial applicants.

UMID card application statuses may be viewed via My.SSS Portal account.

Claimants may receive their IDs when the transaction status in their account is Card Generated.
