PBBM: No more active NPA front

MANILA – According to President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., there is no more active New People’s Army (NPA) front operating as of December last year.

The President credited his administration’s headway in fighting the communist insurgency to the collective efforts of the Department of National Defense (DND), the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG), the military, and the police.

“Last year, we neutralized 1,399 members of communist and local terrorist groups. We got 1,751 firearms through capture, confiscation, recovery and from surrenders. Now, we can report that there is no more active NPA guerrilla front as of December of 2023,” Marcos said over the weekend.

He said the accomplishments reflect his administration’s commitment to achieve lasting peace and stability.

“With the help of the AFP, PNP and intelligence agencies, we will continue our campaign against terrorism inside the Philippines,” Marcos said.

The DILG recently distributed P91.47 million in financial assistance to former rebels under the Enhanced Comprehensive Local Integration Program.

A total of 1,119 former rebels, consisting of 821 NPA fighters and 298 Militia ng Bayan members, received the cash aid.

The package also included livelihood assistance to 713 recipients, reintegration assistance to 1,074 beneficiaries, and payment for the 264 firearms turned over by the rebels to government forces.
