MANILA — The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said a trough of a low-pressure area (LPA) outside the Philippine area of responsibility (PAR) will bring rains in Mindanao.
According to Weather specialist Daniel James Villamil, cooler temperatures are expected to prevail in many areas of the country brought by the northeast monsoon or amihan.
“For the next 24 hours, the southern portion of Mindanao could experience rains brought by a trough of LPA outside PAR. There is a small chance the LPA will develop into a typhoon in the next few days and we also do not expect it to enter PAR,” Villamil said.
He added that Metro Manila and the rest of the country can expect thunderstorms, especially in the afternoons and evenings.
“The northeast monsoon can bring light rains in Northern Luzon, particularly the Ilocos region, Cordillera Administrative Region and Cagayan Valley,” Villamil added.
He said that the decrease in temperature is expected especially in the morning. Based on the monitoring of PAGASA, at 4:50 a.m. on Sunday, the temperature in Baguio City reached as low as 16.2 degrees Celsius.
Other areas with lowest temperature include Tanay, Rizal, 18.8 degrees Celsius; Malaybalay, Bukidnon, 20 degrees Celsius; Tuguegarao City, Cagayan, 20.8 degrees Celsius; Abucay, Bataan, 21 degrees Celsius; Basco in Batanes, Calayan in Cagayan, Coron in Palawan, and Laoag City in Ilocos Norte, 21.8 degrees Celsius; and Mulanay, Quezon, 21.9 degrees Celsius.
In Metro Manila, the temperature ranged between 22 degrees Celsius and 30 degrees Celsius.
“Starting tomorrow (Monday), we can expect the renewed effect of the northeast monsoon in a big portion of Luzon,” Villamil said, adding that the gale warning is in effect in the coastal waters of Batanes.
