MANILA – The current cash grant provided by the Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps) is said to be much more practical than rice.

Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Asst. Secretary for Strategic Communications Romel Lopez in reaction to the Department of Agriculture’s proposal to distribute rice instead of cash aid for the beneficiaries of the 4Ps.

According to him, the rice subsidy for 4Ps beneficiaries is given in cash to avoid long queues.

Lopez also said that the P600 monthly rice subsidy is given to qualified 4Ps members in addition to education and health grants after complying with specific behavioral conditions such as taking their children to school, taking them to health centers for checkups and attending Family Development Sessions (FDS).

However, the DSWD is open to the recommendations of its partner stakeholders to further improve their program implementation.

Whatever the National Advisory Council (NAC) can agree on, they will follow it and the DSWD will implement it.
