MANILA – Senator Christopher “Bong” Go told members of the media that President Rodrigo Duterte has yet to officially support another presidential candidate.
“Sa ngayon po base po sa pag-uusap namin, sa ngayon wala pa po. At ako nag-aantay na lang po ako kung sino po ‘yung ieendorso niya (As of now, based on our discussion, there’s no one yet. I’m waiting for whoever he’s endorsing),” Go said during his visit to fire victims in Barangay 775, San Andres, Manila.
“I’m willing to wait kung sino po ang ieendorso niya, iyon rin po ang aking susuportahan. Iisa lang naman po kami ni Pangulo (I’m willing to wait whoever he endorses; that’s the one I’ll support),” he added.
Go stressed that the administration may endorse a candidate who will assure the continuity of Duterte’s legacy and sustain ongoing pandemic recovery efforts.
Meanwhile, when asked why he has not officially withdrawn his candidacy weeks after announcing his decision, Go stated that he is not in a rush because the senator wants his supporters to understand the reasons for his decision first.
“Sabi ko nga hanggang May 9 naman ang withdrawal, so bakit ba tayo nagmamadali? Bakit ba kayo nagmamadali? Sino bang nagmamadali? (As I’ve said, the withdrawal is until May 9 so why in a hurry? Why you in a hurry?)” he said.
However, Go stated that he no longer considers himself a candidate.
Go further urged people to follow health protocols at public gatherings such as family events, social functions, business conferences, and political rallies.
He encouraged all Filipinos to join the country’s pandemic efforts, emphasizing that the country’s priority is the pandemic, not politics.
