NDRRMC warns public to get ready for rainy season

MANILA – The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) warned the public on Monday to be more cautious and to take precautions against flash floods and landslides induced by severe weather.

“We remind the public to remain alert and prepared for the increasing likelihood of floods and landslides during this rainy season,” NDRRMC chair, Undersecretary Jose Faustino Jr. said in a social media post of the Office of the Civil Defense over the weekend.

According to Faustino, who is also Department of National Defense office-in-charge, the agency will keep on strengthening its mechanisms, systems, and actions that will ensure the continued safety of the Filipino people.

“As we observe the National Disaster Resilience Month, I hope that everyone will take part in our call for collective actions towards a safe. resilient and prosperous nation,” he added.

Some 500 families have been affected by floods in the province of Ifugao last week.

The intertropical convergence zone delivered heavy rains on sections of Cebu, causing widespread flooding.

During heavy rains in Bataan, a woman was killed when a landslide buried their house on July 9.
