DPWH activates motorist assistance program for ‘Undas’ weekend

MANILA – The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) stated on Wednesday that it is once again prepared to help motorists, particularly those traveling to their hometowns for the “Undas” (All Saints’ and All Souls’ Days) weekend.

According to DPWH Secretary Manuel Bonoan, the program dubbed as “Lakbay Alalay” has been reactivated where different teams are prepared to help travelers while they are on the road.

Starting on Thursday at 7 a.m. until noon on on Tuesday, November 2, it will be operational along key locations across the country.

“Our teams will be working on a round-the-clock shift to provide emergency assistance to travelers and ensure major thoroughfares are well-maintained and free from obstruction and potholes,” Bonoan said.

The groups consist of uniformed field and crew employees with maintenance equipment stationed in navy blue-colored tents at designated locations.

Bonoan also directed implementing offices with ongoing projects to ensure that contractors put the appropriate safety signages and traffic advisories along major roads and routes leading to cemeteries to prevent traffic congestion.

He also stated that they are working closely with other government agencies such as the Land Transportation Office, the Philippine National Police, and local government units to provide any required support.

Under Proclamation 79, President Ferdinand R. Marcos announced Oct. 31 as a special non-working holiday in the country, to provide Filipinos more time to spend with their families during the “Undas” observance.
