MANILA – The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) on Monday stated that the northeast monsoon or “amihan” season may end this week, which will signal the start of the warm and dry season in the country.
According to PAGASA, indications that the warm and dry season is approaching are the continued weakening of the northeast monsoon and the prevalence of easterlies, or the warm air coming from the Pacific Ocean.
The country’s warm and dry season is usually from March to May.
In the next 24 hours, PAGASA said the amihan will only affect the extreme northern Luzon and bring partly cloudy to cloudy weather with isolated light rains over Batanes and Babuyan Islands.
Meanwhile, the rest of the country will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms due to the easterlies or localized thunderstorms.
Weather specialist Obet Badrina said PAGASA has not monitored a tropical cyclone that may affect the country this week.
