DOLE, DPWH craft plan to produce 3M jobs for skilled, technical workers

MANILA – The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) and the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) are now crafting a five-year strategic plan to produce at least three million jobs for skilled and technical workers.

DOLE Secretary Bienvenido Laguesma said the job creation program is embodied in the Philippine Labor and Employment Plan (LEP) 2023-2028, which he said, is aimed at addressing both unemployment and underemployment problems in the country.

“Under the LEP there will be a review to address the benefits and the compensation of the workers,” said Laguesma.

For his part, DPWH Secretary Manuel Bonoan said there are a number of big-ticket projects slated until 2028 and this is expected to produce more jobs.

“In fact right now, we are implementing a total capital outlay budget of about more than P800 billion, and we are implementing 70,000 big and small contracts all over the country,” DPWH Secretary Manuel Bonoan said for his part.

“You can imagine the labor force that we need in terms of skilled and technical people. We are now generating I think more than three million labor force” Bonoan said.

He then encouraged Filipinos to check the jobs that will be available soon instead of working overseas.  (MB)
