DA sees drop in retail prices of onions

MANILA — The price of onion in the market is decreasing, the effect is also due to the arrival of the supply of imported onion in the country.

In the monitoring of the Department of Agriculture (DA), the price of some types of onions in Metro Manila has reached P200 to P350 per kilo.

The price of local red onion is P240 to P250 while the price of imported red onion is P200 to P250 per kilo.

The local white onion is P170 to P300 per kilo while the imported white onion is P250 to P260.

According to DA Assistant Secretary and spokesperson Rex Estoperez, at the moment they do not see any shortage in the supply of onions in the country, he said that it is also due to the arrival of imported onions in the country and the harvesting of onions by farmers.

Previously, a kilo of onion in Metro Manila reached up to P720 due to its lack of supply.
