DBM issues P2.5 billion for free Wi-Fi

MANILA – The Department of Budget and Management (DBM) released P2.5 billion for the Free Public Internet Access Program of the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT).

DBM Secretary Amenah Pangadaman has signed the Special Allotment Release Order (SARO) as well as the Notice of Cash Allocation for the first quarter amounting to P356.2 million for maintenance and other operating expenses of the agency.

Under the program, DICT will build facilities such as high-capacity networks, Middle Mile and Last Mile ICT infrastructures as well as towers, data centers and other necessary for the establishment of free Wi-Fi.

Among those who will have free Wi-Fi from the government are public places and state Universities and Colleges.

The DBM secretary said that one of the aspirations of the Marcos administration is proper connectivity for all Filipinos, especially students under Bagong Pilipinas.
