MANILA – A health official said on Tuesday that around 75 percent of coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) cases logged this month are mild and moderate.
Health Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire stated in an online media forum that only 13 percent of cases are asymptomatic and 12 percent are severe and critical.
“Amin pong pinapaalala na maaring manatili po muna sa bahay ang mga mild cases, malaking tulong po ang pag-home isolate or quarantine para mabawasan po ang load sa ating (We’re reminding mild cases that they can stay at home for isolation or quarantine to lighten the load of our) healthcare workers and even our facilities,” she said.
The Department of Health (DOH) will provide Kalinga Kits to individuals undergoing home isolation or home quarantine, she added.
It includes 10 pieces of paracetamol, 10 pieces of vitamin C, 10 pieces of carbocisteine, 20 pieces of facemasks, two bars of soap, one alcogel, one disinfectant spray, and one tips sheet.
Asymptomatic or mild to moderate symptomatic patients can only be isolated or quarantined at home if they have a separate room from other family members, a separate bathroom, and are not living with senior citizens, young children, or people with comorbidities.
Meantime, anyone experiencing severe symptoms is advised to seek immediate medical attention.
The following are guidelines for treating mild or moderate symptoms at home.
“Bagamat po mas mild ang Omicron variant, kapag hindi po maayos ang pagpapagaling sa bahay, maaari po itong magdulot ng problema sa ating (Although Omicron variant is milder than previous variants, improper home treatment can take a toll on our) mental health and physical health,” Vergeire said.
Vergeire advised the use of DOH’s Lusog-Isip mobile self-care app, which features techniques for improving one’s well-being, to assist those who are under home quarantine or isolation in managing stress.
