DOLE, DOT collaborate to generate more jobs in tourism sector

MANILA – The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) has begun to join forces with the Department of Tourism (DOT) to establish programs and projects that will create more jobs in the country.

As a first step, Labor Secretary Bienvenido Laguesma stated that efforts will be made to accommodate more job-seekers after receiving many reports from tourism stakeholders, particularly hotel companies, that they are in need of personnel.

The collaboration, he said, will involve the holding of job fairs in various parts of the country in coordination with the regional offices of DOLE, the DOT and local government units (LGUs).

“It will be a series of job fairs to be held in various cities and provinces with initial focus in Metro Manila, Cebu and Davao,” said Laguesma, noting that a memorandum of understanding (MOU) will be issued to formalize their partnership with the DOT.

The project, dubbed as ‘Trabaho Turismo Asenso’, is set to be launched on September 22-24.

“What we’re about to undertake aims to support the government’s economic recovery program by providing a platform for job seekers for job opportunities in various tourism sectors and allied services,” Laguesma ended.

According to the Philippine Statistics Authority, there were 2.93 jobless Filipinos as of May this year.
