Gov’t eyes printable version of national ID

MANILA — The Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) is developing a printable version of the national ID, as the incoming administration intends to distribute the ID to the majority of Filipinos by the end of the year.

“The PSA is currently working on increasing the production of the physical ID cards currently printed at the BSP (Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas) and will launch the printable version of the national ID that can be printed at the PSA registration centers,” national statistician Dennis Mapa said.

“This will increase the number of registrants with national ID: physical or the printable,” he added.

Mapa has yet to specify when the printable national ID will be made available.

Earlier, Mapa projected that approximately 28 million physical national ID cards would be printed by the end of 2022; the rest are printable versions with a mobile ID that can be accessed via an app.
