MANILA — Railway operations in Metro Manila were suspended on Thursday after a magnitude 6.3 earthquake jolted Calatagan, Batangas and parts of the capital region.
Services of the Metro Rail Transit Line 3 (MRT-3), Light Rail Transit Lines 1 and 2 and Philippine National Railways stopped at past 10:20 a.m.
The Department of Transportation (DOTr) ordered the unloading of train passengers following the earthquake.
Operations of the rail lines resumed following a brief suspension for safety checks and possible damage assessment, the DOTr said.
Cracks were seen at footbridges of the MRT-3 Boni Avenue and Ayala stations while debris fell from the Magallanes station, according to the Presidential Communications Office.
DOTr Assistant Secretary and MRT-3 officer-in-charge Jorjette Aquino said the cracks would not pose danger to the public.
Overseas Filipino workers processing their documents at the Department of Migrant Workers central office in Mandaluyong were evacuated to safer ground.
