MANILA – The UniTeam camp of Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. and Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte suspended all political gatherings during Alert Level 3 in National Capital Region (NCR).
Marcos’ spokesperson and lawyer, Vic Rodriguez, said in a statement on Monday that the presidential candidate has directed that all activities be suspended until January 15.
After more than 20 staff members tested positive for Covid-19, the BBM-Sara UniTeam headquarters in Mandaluyong City has also been temporarily closed until further notice.
“However, campaign preparations and other administrative functions of the UniTeam will proceed non-stop through work-from-home arrangements and virtual meetings of the concerned staffers and campaign personnel,” Rodriguez stated.
The UniTeam urged its supporters across the country to exercise self-restraint and avoid unilateral campaigning and political activities that could result in a spike in Covid-19 cases.
As a matter of policy, the duo’s campaign headquarters requires all visitors and staff to undergo antigen tests at least twice a week.
The Commission on Elections spokesperson, James Jimenez, commended the UniTeam’s decision.
“Credit where credit is due, this is a laudable move. It would be epic, however, if the suspension of public appearances, sorties, and assemblies were until February 8, 2021,” he said on his Twitter account @jabjimenez.
