Marcos: Selection of economic managers vital to transition team

MANILA — The presumptive president-elect, Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr., is already planning prospective appointments, with economic managers at the top of the list.

Marcos stated that selecting economic managers will be one of the first crucial steps.

“As you can imagine, the economic managers are going to be critical for the next several years because of the pandemic and economic crisis, something that we are looking at very carefully,” he said in a statement Wednesday at his campaign headquarters in Mandaluyong.

Marcos stated that he will retain the executive committee that assisted him throughout the campaign, but that they will also consult with other experts in each department.

“I continue to be guided by competence and willingness to work with the next admin, so we have removed immediately about their political leanings have been,” he added.

Marcos also stated that he and his transition team will concentrate on the crucial aspects they mentioned throughout the campaign, such as the economy, energy costs, unemployment, and infrastructure.

In his campaign, Marcos was widely criticized for his lack of concrete programs for the country. Instead, he emphasized the need for national unity and avoided forums where he might have elaborated his policy proposals.

He also revealed the first appointment of his incoming administration—that of his running-mate, Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte, now the presumptive vice-president, who would head the Department of Education.
