MANILA – Malacañang said the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) and the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group of the Philippine National Police (PNP) are currently probing the source of a forged appointment document.
This, after President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. ordered an investigation to get to the bottom of the publication of a document designating a new Bureau of Immigration (BI) commissioner.
According to the Palace, the document did not exist in its record.
Angeles said in her press briefing on Wednesday that the NBI and CIDG have already started their investigation.
“As of yesterday afternoon, I was informed by [Justice] Secretary Boying Remulla that the NBI has already commenced their investigation. We’re waiting [for an update] from the CIDG,” she added.
The President’s signature appears on the forged document, which named Atty. Abraham Espejo Jr. as the new BI Commissioner, which has been circulating on social media.
On Monday, the news was conveyed to the Palace, and it was announced immediately that “no appointment has yet been made to the position of Immigrations Commissioner.”
“Hindi pa natin nakikita yung original (We haven’t seen the original), if any,” Angeles said.
“Ang masasabi natin is may lumilitaw na dokumento ay sinasabing may appintment na po pero hindi nag-e-exist yung records base dun sa record search natin (What we can say is an appointment document appeared, but does not exist on the records based on the record search),” she added.
Angeles stated that they are handling the matter seriously because it could occur in other instances, primarily using the President’s signature on other documents.
