NTC: SIM registration hits 96 million

MANILA – Based on the latest SIM registration update released by the National Telecommunications Commission (NTC), the total number of registered cards is at 96,910,251. This is equivalent to at least 57.68 percent of the nearly 170 million cards nationwide.

NTC Deputy Commissioner Jon Paulo Salvahan, in an interview over ANC on Monday, May 22, said there was a “sharp decline” in registration after the mandatory measure was extended for 90 more days.

“Based on the latest number we already have around [over 96 million registered] subscribers. We have seen a sharp decrease in the [pacing of the registration] after the extension was announced. We have seen an average of 150,000 [daily registrants] since the deadline was extended,” said Salvahan.

“However, we don’t see that we will reach the 100 percent mark. We’re looking at around 100 to 110 million SIMs to be registered,” he added.

Earlier, the national government said the extension of the SIM registration deadline will only be made once. Non-compliance, according to the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT), will result in permanent deactivation of SIMs.

The mandatory registration will end on July 25, 2023.
