OCTA: NCR Covid-19 positivity rate further drops; Omicron subvariant BQ.1 wave ‘likely receding’

MANILA – According to OCTA Research fellow Dr. Guido David, the Covid-19 positivity rate further drops in Metro Manila–which may mean that the Omicron subvariant BQ.1 wave is already “receding” in the region.

David said in an update posted on social media on Sunday that the Covid-19 positivity rate in Metro Manila was down from 14.4 percent on December 10, to 13.9 percent on December 17.

“It looks like the BQ.1 wave is receding in time for a happy holiday,” he said.

However, OCTA observed that positivity rates have increased in Bataan (from 8.7 percent to 13.8 percent), Zambales (from 11.7 percent to 14.4 percent), and Laguna (from 16.7 percent to 19 percent).

The positivity rate is the number of individuals who tested positive for Covid-19 among those who were tested.

In order to show that the spread of the virus is under control, the WHO advised that the positivity rate remain at or below 5 percent.
