PAGASA: La Niña likely to end in February

MANILA — PAGASA anticipates the La Niña phenomenon to end in February.

“La Niña is currently affecting the country. That’s why some parts of the Philippines are experiencing near to above-normal rainfall during the previous month and the current month,” Chris Perez, weather forecaster, said.

Perez said that when La Niña ends in February, the neutral phase of the El Niño-Southern Oscillation will return or a period of normal weather will be experienced.

During La Niña, there is constant rain that sometimes causes flooding and landslides.

Perez said zero or one typhoon is expected to enter the Philippine Area of Responsibility.

PAGASA continues to monitor a low pressure area at a distance of 355 kilometers east northeast of Surigao del Norte but the chances of this becoming a full typhoon are dim.
