PAGASA: Signal No. 2 raised in Bicol, Samar as Paeng intensifies

MANILA – The weather bureau on Friday stated that some parts of Luzon and the Visayas are currently under Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal (TCWS) No. 2 as Tropical Storm Paeng slightly intensified.

Paeng currently has maximum sustained winds of 75 kph near the center and gustiness of up to 90 kph. It was last seen 410 km. east of Borongan City in Eastern Samar.

TCWS No. 2 has been hoisted over Catanduanes, Albay, Sorsogon, and the eastern portion of Camarines Sur (Caramoan, Garchitorena, Presentacion, Lagonoy, Goa, San Jose, Tigaon, Iriga City, Saglay, Buhi) Northern Samar and the northern portion of Eastern Samar (Jipapad, Arteche, Oras, San Policarpo, Maslog, Dolores, Can-Avid, Taft).

Winds may reach gale-force strength in these areas.

On the other hand, TCWS No. 1 has been raised over Masbate including Ticao and Burias Islands, Camarines Norte, the rest of Camarines Sur, Romblon, Marinduque, Quezon including Pollilo Islands, Laguna, and Rizal.

TCWS No. 1 has also been hoisted in Samar, the rest of Eastern Samar, Biliran, Leyte, Southern Leyte, and the northern portion of Cebu (Daanbantayan, Medellin, San Remigio, Tabogon, City of Bogo, Borbon) including Bantayan and Camotes Islands, Dinagat Islands, Surigao del Norte including Siargao and Bucas Grande Islands and the northern portion of Surigao del Sur (Carrascal, Cantilan, Madrid, Carmen, Lanuza, Cortes, City of Tandag, Bayabas, Tago, Cagwait).

Strong winds will prevail in these areas.

Over Batanes, Babuyan Islands, Ilocos provinces, the northern and eastern portions of mainland Cagayan, the eastern portions of Isabela, and the northern portion of Apayao, the intensified surge of the northeast monsoon will also bring strong winds with gusts reaching gale-force strength.

According to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA), Paeng will cause heavy to intense with at times torrential rains over Bicol Region, Northern Samar, Samar, and Eastern Samar.

Moderate to heavy with at times intense rains are also possible over Western Visayas, Marinduque, Romblon, and Quezon.

Light to moderate with at times heavy rains are likely over Caraga, Zamboanga Peninsula, BARMM, Northern Mindanao, mainland Cagayan Valley, Aurora, Rizal, Laguna, and the rest of the Visayas.

Flooding and rain-induced landslides are expected, especially in areas highly susceptible to these hazards.

Meanwhile, the eastern seaboards of Southern Luzon and the Visayas, the eastern, northern, and western seaboards of Northern Luzon, the eastern seaboard of Central Luzon, and the eastern seaboard of Mindanao may experience rough to very rough seas.

PAGASA advised fishing boats and other small seacraft not to venture into the sea, and larger sea vessels are alerted against big waves.
