Philippines, China sign 14 agreements

MANILA — The Philippines and China signed 14 bilateral agreements during the visit of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. in China.

Among the agreements are related to agriculture, infrastructure, development cooperation, maritime security, tourism, and others.

The Philippines and China also signed the joint action plan for agricultural and fisheries cooperation, digital and information and communications technology cooperation.

The protocol of phytosanitary requirements for the export of fresh durian from the Philippines to China was also agreed upon.

The handover certificates of two China-aid bridge projects in Manila, the Binondo-Intramuros bridge and the Estrella-Pantaleon bridge, were also sealed.

The list also includes a mutual recognition agreement between the General Administration of Customs of China and the Bureau of Customs (BOC) of the Philippines in maritime.

Meanwhile, Marcos’ promised investment in China is US$22 billion including US$1.72 billion for agribusiness, US$13.76 billion in renewable energy (RE), and US$7.32 billion in strategic monitoring (electric vehicle, mineral processing).

Two cooperative agreements were also sealed to ensure the sustainable supply of agriculture inputs, especially fertilizers.

Marcos accepted the intention of some Chinese companies to invest in coconut, durian production, and the Philippine livestock sector.
