PNP: PH crime rate drops by 7.58%

MANILA — The Philippine National Police (PNP) on Wednesday reported that crime incidents dropped by 7.58 percent from August to November this year.

According to Col. Redrico Maranan, PNP Public Information Office chief, recorded 12,031 crimes from August to November 30 compared to 13,018 of last year.

Luzon appears to have recorded the largest decrease in crime incidents of 8.67 percent, from 7,568 to 6,912; Mindanao, 6.57 percent, 2,696 to 2,519 and Visayas, 5.59 percent from 2,754 down 2,600.

Crimes include murder, homicide, physical injury, robbery, theft, vehicle theft, motorcycle theft and rape.

During the Christmas season, Maranan said that 85 percent of the police or 192,000 police officers have been deployed in different areas of the country to provide security to the public and shopping malls.

So far, no threats have been reported in this Yuletide season.

Maranan also reminded those who will attend the Christmas party to avoid driving while drunk or drinking to avoid accidents.
