MANILA — President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. got an investment commitment from ride-hailing service Grab, which could create up to 500,000 jobs, according to Malacañang.
Marcos met with officials of Grab Holdings Inc. this February 2, at the Malacañang Palace to discuss Grab’s recommendations on possible ways to modernize transportation in the Philippines.
During the meeting, Anthony Tan, CEO and co-founder of Grab, promised to create jobs in the country, assuring the President that his company will deliver.
“Well, that is what we need. At the very start of all of this, we had always stressed that what we have to do is create jobs right now. Because so many businesses closed, so many people really have no place to go, even the OFWs. So… we need to find jobs,” Marcos told Tan.
According to the President, his government has created approximately 2 million jobs which he said has resulted in a decrease in the level of unemployment in the country.
Tan told Marcos that Grab’s motorcycle taxis generate about four to five million rides a day.
Tan added that it is also necessary to create jobs in Davao, Cebu, and Iloilo and not only in Metro Manila.
