DOST receives nearly P176M for research

MANILA – The Department of Budget and Management (DBM) announced over the weekend that the Philippine Council for Health Research and Development (PCHRD) of the Department of Science and Technology (DoST) has been allocated P175.902 million for its grants-in-aid program.

Budget Secretary Amenah Pangandaman stated that these funds will be utilized for various grants-in-aid initiatives, including research and development, capacity enhancement, financial support for researchers, organization of forums and conventions, provision of stipends for scholars, and financial assistance to state universities and colleges (SUCs).

“Investing in health research translates to investing in a healthier and more resilient future for our nation,” Pangandaman said in a statement on Sunday.

“With this additional fund, we help empower our scientists, scholars, and institutions to drive innovation and make a lasting impact on public health,” she added.

Pangandaman authorized the release of additional notices of cash allocations on February 13 and 27, 2024.

This allocation forms part of the P678.512 million disbursed to the DoST-PCHRD for its grants-in-aid program, specifically categorized under the line item “Development, Integration, Management, and Coordination of the National Health Research System for Health and Related Fields.”

Previously, the DBM had disbursed P25.646 million to the DoST-PCHRD to meet its regular operational requirements in the first quarter of the year.

According to the Fiscal Year 2024 General Appropriations Act, the DoST-PCHRD has been allotted a total allocation of P828.955 million, including automatic appropriations.
