MANILA – Malacañang said on Thursday that President Rodrigo Roa Duterte is now under mandatory quarantine after being exposed to a household staff who tested positive for Covid-19.
“The Palace confirms that President Rodrigo Roa Duterte was recently exposed to household staff who tested positive for Covid-19. The President has since been tested for Covid-19, and while the results of the test came back negative, he is currently observing mandatory quarantine protocols,” Cabinet Secretary Karlo Nograles, acting presidential spokesperson, said in a statement.
According to Nograles, the last day of Duterte’s exposure to a Covid-19 positive case was last January 30.
“His RT-PCR (reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction) Negative test result was last Monday, January 31, 2022, and tested negative again for the second time on Tuesday, February 1, 2022,” he added.
Duterte’s recent visit to Cardinal Santos Medical Center in San Juan, he stated, “is for his routine medical check-up only”.
Duterte is still “in constant communication” with Cabinet members, according to Nograles, to guarantee that urgent matters are addressed while under quarantine.
“The Chief Executive continues to work while in quarantine, and is in constant communication with the members of the Cabinet in order to ensure that urgent matters are addressed, and to monitor the implementation of his directives, particularly with regard to the government’s Covid-19 response,” he said.
Former Chief Presidential Legal Adviser Salvador Panelo said Duterte is “occupied with paperwork” in Bahay ng Pagbabago in Malacañang.
